Lets go Fishing!
Types of Fish to Catch
Smallmouth Bass
Michigan’s Great Lakes and connecting waterways have an abundant smallmouth population, making Michigan an outstanding fishery for smallies. Smallmouth are one of the hardest fighting freshwater fish and a blast to catch on light tackle spinning gear or a fly rod. Peak fishing for smallmouth is May - June, but we actively target them March - November
Steelhead
Steelhead are one of Michigan’s top gamefish and are always at the top of someone’s bucket list of fish to catch. Steelhead start running up the rivers in late September following the king salmon migration. Steelhead that run up the rivers in the fall will winter over in the river system until the spring when they spawn. We target steelhead from October - May.
Salmon
King salmon are one of the largest fish in our river systems. Each fall these fish run from the Great Lakes up the rivers to spawn. These fish are known for power and will give your arms a workout. Peak times are Mid September - October.
Pike/Musky
Pike and Musky are the top predators in our lakes and river systems here in Michigan. These fish are a blast to catch on either a fly rod or heavy spinning and casting gear. The best time to target Pike and Musky is during the months of May-June, when weed growth is still low, and again in mid September - November, when the water cools and these fish start feeding heavily before winter.
Bluegill
Bluegill are found in just about every body of water in the US and are a great way to get youngsters into fishing. Bluegill can also make great table fare and are a blast to catch on a lighter weight fly rod. We offer panfish trips year round: fly, spin, or ice fishing.
Catfish
Michigan has a large population of catfish in its rivers systems and has the potential to produce some giants. There are two different species of catfish we catch here on the river, Channels and Flatheads. These fish are strong and do not come in easily. Peak fishing is May-June, when the water is still higher from the spring rains and the fish are feeding heavily before they spawn. Fishing remains good throughout the summer and picks up again in late August, when these fish start to school up in the deeper pools and feed heavily before winter.
Largemouth Bass
The largemouth bass is America’s most targeted gamefish and one of the most widely recognized fish among anglers worldwide. Most all of our rivers and lakes here in Michigan hold largemouth and make them a fun target for anglers. These fish are known for explosive top-water hits and are a blast when targeted with a fly rod. We fish largemouth May- September.
